  2. Catherine's lack of self confidence seems to be building more and more. She's always going to Frederic asking for what he needs, or how she can make him happier. I believe it's because she's so worried of losing her like her last fiance, and ever since she gave up her virginity to Frederic, she fears him leaving. Once she tells him of her pregnancy, her fear intensifies. She's so worked up thinking Frederic will be so angry, when in reality he's just worried about her. She lacks the self confidence she should have with her to carry out the baby and marriage that they will one day have. I think the war is damaging her daily, and with every day that passes by, her worries increase about Frederic leaving her side.

  3. The main characters change alot more and more as the story porgresses. Catherine begins to become more confident, and she starts falling even more in love with frederick in a way that she never thought she would after she lost her fiance. frederick is starting to show more chracteristics of a hemingway hero. He has more love for catherine, and is starting to give up everything just for her.

  4. As the story goes on the main characters begin to change. An example of this would be Catherine. She is gaininig more confidence. She is always making sure that Frederick is always happy and has everything he needs. Frederick is changing also becausehe is starting to make sure catherine is happy also.

  5. The characters in the story either change aover a while or very quickly, catherine in like a chapter was all over frederick because she feared she would lose him. Frederick changes in the way that he feels about catherine, he use to think love was a joke but he leardned to really love.

  7. The main characters in my opinion do not really change a whole lot but one aspect where they do change is Catherin and Fredericks relationship. As the war goes on and their relationship gets more serious and seems to be not only a "fling" when with Catherine getting pregnant alot changes within the characters and Frederick and Catherine just want to be together but in doing so, Catherine going with Frederick when he takes his leave, the two will be seperated this amakes it seem like even though Frederick and Catherine put all this time and evergy into this relationship to try and forget about the war its almost like it was for nothing becouse in the end the war "won" in a way getting the best of both of them and completely surrounding them in the events of the war.

  8. The characters have changed in a few ways. In the beginning of the story, they are all energized and alot of them are for the war. Later on, they are all getting tired and you can tell. They don't fight as hard, and they are getting worn out from fighting for so long. Also in the beginning of the story, Catherine always asked Frederic if he loved her all the time, and she had no confidence. She is still making sure Frederic is happy, but not always asking if he loves her. Frederic also changed. In the beginning of the story, he did things for himself. He didnt really ask Catherine what made her happy. But where we are now, he had asked her to take a walk with him to get away from the people at the races, and then he asked her to come with him to the gates to go see the horses. He cares about what she wants now, and he is starting to give up more for her. He is showing more care and love towards her.

  9. THE MAIN CHARACTERS CHANGE IN MAY WAYS. FREDERIC AND CATHERINE HAVE CHANGED BECAUSE NOW THEY ARE USING EACHOTHER MORE THEN EVER TO TRY TO GET AWAY FROM THE WAR. ALSO CATHERINE DOESNT CARE WHAT FREDERIC DOES AS LONG AS SHE HEARS WHAT SHE WANTS TO HEA FROM HIM. BOTH OF THEM JUST WANT TO FORGET AND STAY AWAY FROM THE WAR SO THEY STAY IN THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO FORGET..

  10. Catherine changes by acting like she is crazy in the begining when she hesitated to kiss Frederick and she slaps him then she starts crying. But she took that leap of faith to actually follow through with "the relationship" because she is afraid she would never love again. No one would ever love her again. She lost her virginity to Frederick because that was something sacred that she wanted to give to her fiance before he went to war, but he died. She changed dramatically. Now her whole life and faith is in Fredrick's hands. She has no one else but him. She still has a bit of self conscientiousness because she constantly asks Fred if he loves her. She's paranoid. But she can't help it. She has to lie to herself to make sure he is in thism thing with her.

Frederick changed as well. He used to be like Rinaldi; women, sex, drinking. He had never loved anyone before. Now he is positive he "loves" Catherine. He acts like a married man. He is strong enough to not act depressed when Catherine told him she is pregnant. He is owning up to his responsibilities.
