At the begining Frederic and Catherine start their relationship as a Game; Frederic says "Lets drop this war" meaning lets just have something to let us forget about war and let her forget about her dead fiance nothing to serious. Then Over time Federic thinks about Catherine all the time and She even gives him a necklace before he goes off into battle. They started their relationship as something to help them forget, but the book shows forshadowing that they may become something more serious.
whe Catherine and Frederick first met, it wasnt exactly "love at first sight" but it was attraction at first sight. Frederick thought that Catherine was absolutely beautiful, and they both became quite atracted to each other. But both of them had endured some hardships due to the war, and they were looking for an escape. Catherine had lost her fiance that she was madly in love with, and she was never quite the same after that. Frederick was beginning to lose his mind due to grief seeing all the injuries and death because he was an ambulance driver. They both were losing their minds to the was and they needed some support. Physical love with another human being made them feel better, and gave them the escape they needed and wanted. As the story progresses, you see that they start developing other feelings for each other, not just the physical attraction they started off with in the beginning. In the beginning it was just a game they both stated, and they both knew that they were playing.
Frederic and Catherine's love isn't real but they acted as if it was because they wanted/needed love during the time of the war and they wanted someone who they could have to love and have the one person to make them feel happy. At the begning when Frederic tryed to kiss Catherine, she slapped him in the face because she didn't want to have that type of relationship. But then after only like 5 minutes she realizes she wants this so called love, so she goes along with his game. Then after they were together and in a relationship, they say they loved eachother, Frederic does things that Catherine doesn't think a boyfriend/lover schould do. For example Frederic goes away and doesn't tell Catherine where he is, what hes doing, and when hes going too be back home. The love isn't real but its there and should be treated like a real relationship (example should tell eachother what there doing and where they are.)
The love between Catherine and Lieutenant Henry seems to almost be forced and fake. They seem to think love is their only true escape, and pursue it as fast as they can just to take their mind off of the war. They even admit to “playing a game”. Catherine still holds on to her laid husbands riding crop, clearly, she is not over him. She is still madly in love with her dead fiancé, and in my opinion, is using Henry as a replacement. She immediately calls Henry “darling”, after just meeting him prior to, a symbol showing how lonely she is, and how fervent she is to have a mate. She’s also afraid to fall in love with another man, after her fiancé was killed because of the war. Henry begins to fall for her, but you can tell she is uncomfortable with falling in love again because when Henry kisses her, she slaps him across the face! The reader can sense she convinced herself to use him as an escape a few minutes after slapping him, because in turn, she states “I’d be glad to kiss you if you don’t mind”, and proceeds to kiss Henry. They both know that a relationship in the war will be difficult, and Catherine even warns Henry, “we are going to have a strange life”.
However, I have to add, in time they start to fall madly in love. Catherine rids herself of the riding crop, symboling her eagerness to move on. Henry falls hard for Catherine, and finds her the most beautiful woman in the world. Perhaps their "game" to play has ended, and they are ready to have a celebration of winning?
The kind of love that Fredrick and Catherine possess is fake or pretend love. When they first met, they felt a physical attraction, meaning lust. Lust is different from having a love connection. However they are both willing to play the game of this ‘pretend love’ because they both want to get their minds of the war. Both were still mourning of a past event. Catherine’s love of her life had died and Fredrick is still horrified of the catastrophes of war, like seeing people next to him die. They both need each other in order to get themselves through the war emotionally.
Catherine and Frederick have a relationship together, but it isnt real. it is just a game for them to be able to get away from the war. it started off as catherine wanting a real relationship. For example when Frederick tried tokiss Catherine at first she slapped him in the face, because she wanted to take things slow. Once she realizes that it is just a game for him she goes along with it. As the book goes along Catherine gives Frederick a necklace before he leaves. this shows that their relationship might be something more than a game in the future.
Catherine and Fredrick have a weird love when they first meet. They are both trying to forget the war and they don’t really realize that they are truly there for each other. At first, Henry just wants Catherine because he just wants a woman so he can get his mind off the war. He tries to kiss her but she slaps him in the face. This event in the story shows how Catherine does not love him, and how Henry is just looking to do things with Catherine. Henry thinks that Catherine is a crazy woman. In the later chapters of the book while Henry is injured he and Catherine really start to love each other. While he is in the hospital Henry and Catherine grow close together…Keep reading to find out what happens classssmates!!!
The kind of love Frederick and Catherine possess is a type of love that is hidden and hard to get through and understand. Through the book their love is a type of fantsy game that is just to help Frederick and Catherine get out of the war. After Frederick and Catherine kiss Catherine starts to feel awful about how she didnt do "the dirty" with her fiance. Catherine knows that what she is doing with Frederick is wrong and that she still is deep love with her fiance.
Frederic first goes to meet Catherine with his friend who liked Catherine at first. Once Fredric and Catherine saw each other they were attracted to each other but it wasn’t love. Fredric is used to only being with girls at the whorehouses and he tries to kiss Catherine and do stuff with her. She slaps his face but then apologizes immediately because she felt bad. Fredric says that he could see it all ahead like a chess game. You can tell from this line that he isn’t intending to fall in love; he is just looking for someone to get his mind off the war. Also later on Catherine says she knows it is a game as well. Even though they may act like they are in love they both know they aren’t, they know that it is just to help get them through the war and help them cope.
The relationship between these two characters is the "love" that is used to escape the stresses of war. When the chick says "You will be good to e, were going to have a weird relationship", this shows that they both know that they are only playing love games with each other, and it is only to cope with war. This also foreshadows how fake of a relationship it is, and how it will sail utterly.
Fredrick and Catherine's love is game, they are using eachother as a way to escape from the war. Fredrick does nto know what love is and is scared to love her, which is why he asks the priest what love really is, which is foreshadowing Catherine and Fredrick to actually fall in love. Catherine knows what love is because of her fallen fiance and is scared to love any else because she does not want to get hurt which is why there love and relationship is just a game and way for the both of them to escape the war.
catherine and fredrick have kind of a fake love. theyre love is to try to get away from the war and forget whats going on. they want to start a relationship and just get away from everything. fredrick said he saw it like a chess game, they were just aplying the game and pretending to be in love so they each clould forget about the war. this is their way of coping with the war and not going insane like a lot of people are. many different ways are possible for coping and this is their way, so their love is kind of fake
When Catherine and Frederick first look at each other they know that they will help each other get through the war. At first when Frederick goes to kiss her Catherine slaps him because she is a good girl and has never gone as far as he wishes to go. He wants to get far with her so he when he is slapped he reacts by apologizing and saying it's ok. She apologizes for slapping him and he twists it so that she thinks that she was in the wrong for slapping him. Throughout the rest of the conversation he is planning his move in order to get far/get where he wants to be "with" her. Then when she calls him darling and invites him to kiss her it shows that she is willing to do what she has to get through the war whether it be pretending to love someone or not. She starts to cry because she has just changed from a good girl to a "bad" girl and she knows that she is going to have a strange time with Frederick. Also that in order to get through the war they are going to live in a fantasy world and pretend that they love each other even though they do not truly love each other. They try to make it as real as possible so that they themselves believe it. They had to find some way to cope with the war so they choose the game of "fake love".
Catherine and Fredrick have a fake, fairy tale love. They both don't "love" each other and to take their minds off the war they consider each other, their better half. On multiple occasions Henry himself said he doesn't love Catherine. Even Catherine stopped playing games and told him she knows he doesn't love her and he doesn't have to play this game anymore, if he doesn't want to. They are bothing faking it.
Frederick and Catherine have a fantasy love. They like each other but it’s not love like they say it is. They need a way to escape the pain from the war and one way was keeping themselves from being lonely. They show affection and tell each other that they really do love each other even though it is just a game. Both of them want to believe that they really are in love. When Frederick is in pain he tells her how much he loves her. It seems real but you know it’s just a way to feel somewhat happy. Frederick wants to lover her because she is not like the other girls, she is a good girl. He doesn't want just any girl. Catherine needs someone to take the place of her fiancé who was killed. No matter how much they want to believe they love each other, they know deep down its not real. It’s fake and made up in their imagination.
The fanasty love that Catherine and Henry engage is simply a way to make everything seem alright. To forget about the war is the only reason they have "fallen in love". In reality neither of them love each other it is all just a love game. This is clearly expressed when Catherine gives the medal to Henry. Henry's reaction proves that it isn't a real love realtionship. He simply looked at it and placed it in his pocket. He didn't realize nor did he care how much that medal had truly meant to Catherine.
Their relationship status is very fake and not real at all. They say i love you to eachother to make it seem real. The only reason they do this is because they want to escape the horror of war. It is just a big game.
i dont think they express love.they way it was in the book sdidnt even seem like love.he said to her lets drop this war or something like that.meaning lets have sex.and they were a game at first.then 5 minutes later she was into him to.she and him might have an atraction towards one another but they will never be in love.
At the begininng the "love" that Catherine and Frederick possesed wasn't real. It was just a distraction to keep their mind off of the war. But as the story goes on, and they depend on each other more and more they really begin to love and care for each other in a way that they hadnt before. Catherine lost her fiance' not long ago because of the war, and she was depending on frederick to help her get over her loss. now she is starting to feel the same way about frederick as she did her fiance, and she is terrified of losing him too to the war.
I started to think that Frederic and Catherine were really falling in love, but now I read their final goodbye's, and it struck me oddly. I mean if they were so in love, wouldn't their goodbye's be longer, and more passionate? They were just simply, "goodbye darling" "yes, goodbye". Why were they so short? That is what gets me thinking either they are so afraid to show their love and affection around other people, or they are too scared to say goodbye, or they simply don't care. But Catherine is pregnant with Frederic's baby now, the goodbye's should have been longer and more sincere. That is what confuses me most about their relationship. But who cares now whether they're in love or not, they're having a baby together and are now trapped in the game they started months prior.
The love that catherine and henry share now is different to when they first started to play the 'game' for example when they pass a couple outside of the church, catherine says that nobody is like them. their relationship is more 'sacred' says Henry. when rinaldi asks henry is catherine is good in bed, he says that it is a sacred thing between them. therefore, he takes their relationship much more seriously. when they discuss the baby, she assures henry that everything will be okay and she will set up a nice home for when he returns. Catherine and henry are in a fairy-tale world. they are different from everyone else because they have to go against society to avoid being caught. they cannot go to church, and have to do what they feel is right. they feel protected by each other.
Their love is very different than it was in the beginning of the book. Now they have a physical relationship and they have more love for each other. I feel like they force their physical relationship just so they have something to get their mind off the war. Also I think that they only like to be alone with each other because when they are around other people it brings out how they don’t really have a good love for each other.
The love between Frederick and Catherine is not true or real love at all, all the "love" really is seems like a distractions from th ewar and pain going on around them and just thier way of dealing with it. Becouse they are using each other as distractions and going through and coping with the events of the war together they have developed a special and unique kind of bond that although can't be described as true love for one another is more like a very close friendship in a way where they trust each oether to the point in this time where they can have a relationship. So I would describe their bond more as being a unique friendship rather than true love since its kinof a forced relationship to cope with the war.
CATHERINE AND FREDERIC HAVE A DIFFERENT KIND OF LOVE THEN MOST PEOPLE. THEY WANT A PERFECT RELATIONSHIP AND SHE JUST WANTS TO FORGET ABOUT THE WAR. THERE IS EXAMPLES OF THIS WHEN FREDERIC LIES TO CATHERINE AND TELLS HIM HE HAS SLEPT WITH OTHER WOMEN, SHE JUST SAY NO YOUR LYING JUST TELL ME YOU HAVENT SLEPT WITH OTHER WOMEN. SHE JUST WANTS PERFECT RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THEM SO SHE CAN FORGET ABOUT THE WAR. THEY BOTH WWANT TO FORGET SO THEY ARE IN THIS RELATIONSHIP TOGETHER TO FORGET. AS THE STORY MOVES ALONG IM BEGINNING TO BELIEVE THAT THEY LOVE EACHOTHER MORE AND MORE
Frederick and Catherine posses a type of love just to get them out of the war. When they are together they love being around eachother because they get their minds of the war and dont have to think about what can happen. Frederick thinks this love is just for now and just needs Catherine to get him out of the war. Catherine believes this is real but wonders, and misses her fiance who is DEAD. But towards we reed more they start to really become more and more in love
Frederick and catherine have the kind of love where catherine is seeking approval in there relationship. she is always asking frederick what he thinks of her, what he wants and things of that nature.
Frederick and Catherine posess the kind of love which is just passion and lust like the priest said. They do not posess the love which makes you want to sacrafice and serve for. There love is just an escape.
