  2. Fredric is cut off from the traditional values of home and family because a general loss in faith. When he recieves the saint from catherine he just takes it and puts it in his pocket, only once the ambulance driver talks to him about it he puts it around his neck. this shows his loss of faith.

  8. Once Frederic got sincerely injured while eating cheese, he completely forgot about his own pain and immediately rushed to Piccini's side to assist him. Of course after realizing his intense pain, Frederic noticed his blown up legs. Even still though, Frederic is so stoic and hides all the bitter emotions, his legs are even dropped, and he does not loose his temper. After Catherine confesses her pregnancy to Frederic, he hides his fear and anger to not upset Catherine. Obviously he's going to be scared and worried, but he hides it. And with the style of Hemingway, only the reader can guess that he is in mental pain, not read it.

  9. right before frederic and catherine leave each other, frederic acts like a "Hemingway hero" because it doesnt show how much he really will miss her and that he is really sad he wont be able to see her for a long time,.

  10. Frederick is like a Hemingway hero because he doesnt like to show emotion. even when he gets almost blown up, he still does not show how much pain he is in. Once Catherine admits to him that she is pregnant, that still doesnt let him show his emotions. He keeps it inside, not showing it.

  11. After reading more of the book I found more examples about how Fredrick shows how he is a Hemingway Hero. One example is how when he first comes to the hospital he doesn’t show any pain, only the one time that the people dropped him. Also in the middle of the night he wakes from a nightmare and he is sweating. This shows how he is a Hemingway hero because they only show fear or emotion at night. Further in the book, he also shows some examples about being a Hemingway hero. When Freddy leaves to go back to the war after his leg is healed, he and Catherine have to say bye. Their goodbye is a little strange because when someone goes to war that you love, you should be all hugs and tears when you’re saying bye. Fredrick and Catherine do not show this, they just say okay bye, take care, like he is just going out to the store.

  12. Frederick doesnt seem to have alot of faith because of what the war did to him. It seems he lost his ability to love, but thats brought back to him after he shares more with catherine. He holds alot back and is afraid to say what he really thinks.

  13. Frederic is a "Hemingway Hero" to the people but he doesn't show any emotion himself. Cathrine gives Frederic a saint anthony charm to show how he really is a hemingway hero but Frederic doesn't have any type expression in his face or even show that he cares or appreciate, Frederic has pretty much lost all of his faith in himself and in others, to the point where feelings don't matter anymore.

  14. The reason why Feredic is a Hemingway hero because feredic does not show any emotions, Feredic lost most of his faith in others. He does not have feelings.

  15. Frederic is a hemingway hero because he hides his emotions and true pain. He doesnt let people know how he is feeling. Even when his leg was blew up he didnt let people see that he was in serious pain.

  16. Frederick is a hemmingway hero in that he does not show fear except for when he has a night mare which hemmingway says is okay because you can not control your dreams, the only time he shows fear is when he has a nightmare.

  17. Frederick is a Hemmingway hero because he can go through pain without showing much emotion. When he gets hurt, he doesn’t really cry or complain about it. A Hemmingway hero is someone who stays strong without breaking down and opening up. Frederick goes on with his life without having the bad things in life really affect him. When he is hurt even though he is in excruciating pain he keeps his cool and stays calm. He doesn’t cry like a baby and show how hurt he really is. He is also a Hemmingway hero how when he has to say goodbye to Catherine he doesn’t tell her how much he will really miss her because he doesn’t want to show his emotions.

  18. Fredrick portrays traits of a hemingway hero by: getting rid of pain through pleasures of drinking and lust of sex from Catherine. When he endures pain, he doesn't show it until late at night when no one is around he starts to cry and have nightmares. He cracks jokes about his wound. He develops this "fantasy love" between Catherine to escape the war life. These characteristics and examples illustrate the elements of a Hemingway Hero.
